Cyclone Alfred

Cyclone Alfred is rapidly intensifying as it moves toward southeast Queensland, with meteorologists warning of life-threatening flooding and destructive winds. The storm, currently a Category 2 cyclone, is expected to make landfall between Brisbane and the Gold Coast by Friday or Saturday.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued severe warnings, with some areas forecasted to receive up to 800mm of rainfall. Coastal regions are already experiencing giant waves up to 12.3 meters high, and authorities have urged residents to evacuate low-lying areas immediately. Over 1,000 schools have been closed, and numerous flights have been canceled.

Authorities are emphasizing the dangers of flash floods and high tides, urging people to avoid beaches and refrain from driving through flooded roads. Emergency crews are on high alert as the storm strengthens, with residents bracing for potential power outages and infrastructure damage.
