Stroomstoring Zevenbergen caused widespread disruption on April 8, 2025, as a large-scale power outage affected more than 7,400 households across Zevenbergen and nearby towns. The outage began early in the afternoon and lasted for approximately one hour, plunging entire neighborhoods into darkness and halting day-to-day activities in homes and businesses alike.
According to grid operator Enexis, the outage impacted a staggering 426 postal code areas. Communities affected included Zevenbergen, Klundert, Langeweg, Moerdijk, Lage Zwaluwe, Prinsenbeek, and Zevenbergschen Hoek. While power was restored relatively quickly, the temporary blackout created significant concern among residents.
Initial reports suggest that the power cut may have been triggered by an incident at a high-voltage substation in the nearby Moerdijk industrial area. Netbeheerder TenneT is investigating the possibility that a fire or technical fault at the station disrupted the electricity supply to a large portion of the network.
For many locals, the sudden outage was not only inconvenient but also alarming. Supermarkets had to temporarily halt transactions, public transport schedules were interrupted, and households reported disruptions to heating, cooking, and internet access. Some businesses were forced to close their doors until the power returned.
Enexis responded quickly to the outage and deployed emergency crews to diagnose and resolve the issue. Within an hour, most areas had their power restored. The company has since issued an apology for the inconvenience and assured residents that they are working closely with TenneT to determine the root cause and implement measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
Local authorities have also emphasized the importance of better communication and faster updates during such outages. Residents were encouraged to regularly check Enexis’s online dashboard for live updates on maintenance and disruptions in their area.
While power has returned, Stroomstoring Zevenbergen serves as a wake-up call for improved infrastructure resilience and better preparedness for sudden electrical failures in the region.
